Tree Health Check
Assessing tree health and preventing future problems.
Professional Tree Health Check You Can Rely On
Trees decline slowly and then fail suddenly. By the time the canopy is visibly thinning, the problem has usually been developing for two or three seasons underground or inside the trunk where nobody was looking.
A health check by an ISA Certified Arborist catches that early. We inspect the tree from root flare to crown, identify what is actually wrong rather than guessing, and give you a written plan with a clear order of priority and honest costs.
- Full inspection by an ISA Certified Arborist
- Disease diagnosis and insect pest identification
- Structural risk assessment of trunk, unions and root plate
- Root flare excavation to find girdling roots and buried collars
- Soil and site condition evaluation
- Written report with prioritised, costed recommendations
Signs You Need Tree Health Check
If any of these sound familiar, it is worth having a certified arborist take a look before the problem gets more expensive.
The canopy is thinning
Fewer leaves, smaller leaves or early autumn colour all say the tree is not moving enough water and sugar.
Leaves are discoloured or spotted
Yellowing, browning edges, blotches and curling narrow the diagnosis considerably once an arborist reads the pattern.
Fungus is growing on the trunk
Conks and mushroom shelves on the trunk or root flare mean internal decay that is already well established.
Bark is cracking or falling away
Peeling bark, seeping cankers and exposed wood are signs of disease, borers or past injury that never sealed.
You see boring holes or sawdust
Small exit holes and fine frass at the base point to borers. Emerald ash borer is endemic across Western New York.
Construction happened nearby
Trenching, regrading and compaction damage roots invisibly, and the decline shows up a year or two later.
Our Process, Start to Finish
-
Site and species review
We identify the species, note the growing conditions, and take the history: what changed, and when you first noticed it.
-
Ground-up inspection
Root flare, trunk, unions, branches and foliage are examined in turn, including sounding the trunk for internal decay.
-
Diagnosis
Symptoms are matched to actual causes: pathogen, pest, soil, water, mechanical damage or, quite often, a combination.
-
Written plan
You get findings, risk rating and prioritised recommendations in writing, with costs and a clear answer on whether the tree is worth saving.
Where We Provide Tree Health Check
Based in Buffalo and working throughout Erie County and the surrounding Western New York communities.
Tree Health Check Questions, Answered
Species and site conditions, root flare and visible roots, trunk condition including decay and cavities, branch unions and attachment strength, deadwood, foliage colour and density, pest and disease signs, and the target zone underneath. It is a systematic inspection, not a glance from the driveway.
Often, if it is caught early. Nutrient and water problems, girdling roots, soil compaction and many pests are all treatable. Advanced internal decay and root plate failure generally are not, and we will tell you that plainly rather than sell you treatment that will not work.
A basic visual assessment is included when you contact us about a specific concern. A detailed multi-tree inspection with a formal written report is a separate service, and we will quote it before scheduling.
Quite possibly. EAB is established throughout Western New York and the D-shaped exit holes are distinctive. Thinning from the top down, epicormic sprouts on the trunk and heavy woodpecker activity are the other classic signs. Treatment can work on trees caught early enough, so do not wait.
Every two to three years for mature trees near a house, driveway or play area. Annually for trees with a known defect, and after any major storm regardless of how they look from the ground.
